Music to Survive the Treadmill

As my first half marathon of the year gets closer, I'm logging more and more miles...on the treadmill. And I'm bored.

While I don't have the open hatred some people have for the treadmill, it's not my favorite way to cover the distance. However, cold weather and motherhood make it a necessity.

I often use my treadmill time to catch up on TV (I love hulu and Netflix), but watching my favorite shows screws up my pace--when things get suspenseful on Once Upon a Time I tend to slow down. So I'm freshening up my iPod to play when I need a break from Modern Family--and for when it gets warm again and I can take my runs outside (that will happen eventually, right? Right?!?) Some favorites on my Running Playlist right now:

Roar by Katy Perry (I can hear my 3 year old son singing it in my mind and it makes me smile every time)
Carry On by Fun!
Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy
The Jackson Five Medley from Cirque's Immortal
Runnin' Down a Dream by Tom Petty
Don't Stop me Now by Queen
Everybody Talks by Neon Trees
Switch by Will Smith
Single Ladies by Beyoncé

A penny for your thoughts: what are your favorite songs to listen to while you run? How do you make time pass by on the treadmill?

  1. That picture cracks me up! I tend toward a lot of disco when I'm in a rut!

  2. I like to watch TV if I am on a treadmill. But I don't do it often, I am super clumsy and am terrified of being the next youtube person flying of the end of it!

  3. I watch Food Network if a TV is available…if not I usually catch up on podcasts I don't have time to listen to otherwise.

  4. I'm not a huge fan of the treadmill, but it's a nice option when the weather isn't cooperative. Unfortunately, I cancelled my gym membership to save some money, so I guess I won't have that option for a while!
